Eco-printing on fabric

We will celebrate the autumn equinox with a workshop in eco-printing over fire with Akvilè. Autumn is a great time to explore the art of eco-printing - the leaves around us are mature and full of potential. We will imprint autumn leaves on a cotton tote bag, that you can bring home with you, serve seasonal food and enjoy the transition of the season. Eco-printing is a technique where tannin rich leaves transfer their imprint on fabrics, with a help of a mordant. We will make bundles, with the leaves around us, on tote bags and heat them on the fire. Eco-printing can also be combined with natural dyeing, where the prints are made on the fabrics that have previously been dyed. Using a modifier such as iron, such method is a beautiful way to explore the aspects of both crafts. We will make small samples with the pre-dyed pieces that I will bring and work with iron blankets to obtain different colors in the same piece. If you are curious to start preparing, you are welcome to bring onion peels to the workshop, they are great for eco-printing as well. Akvilé @nature_tones_clothing have been working with natural dyeing for the last six years, and taught various workshops in Copenhagen. The workshop takes place in Skovhaven, outside, so wear clothes for the occasion. There will be lunch, snacks and tea. You can write in the workshop-thread if you need or can offer a ride.
